Melanie Jayne Lynskey (born 16 May 1977) is an New Zealand actress. She is well-known for humorous, soft-spoken, yet powerful characters. She works mostly in films that are independent. Her achievements include her winning a New Zealand Film Award, and a Hollywood Film Award and a Sundance Special Jury Award, in addition to Gotham Award, Golden Nymph Award, Critics' Choice Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. Her film debut was a teenage killer in Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures (1994).
