Thora Birch
Thora Birch (born March 11 1982) is an American actress and producer. Her debut in film was in Purple People Eater (1988) and was awarded a Young Artist Award for "Best Young Actress under Nine Years of Age". Birch made her name in the role of a child-star through appearances in films like All I Want for Christmas (1991), Patriot Games (1992), Hocus Pocus (1993), Monkey Trouble (1994), Now and Then (1995) as well as Alaska (1996).Her first major role came in 1999 when she appeared as Jane Burnham in the highly popular film American Beauty, for which she was awarded a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Birch then appeared as Enid in the cult classic Ghost World (2001), winning a nomination for Golden Globe for Best Actress. Birch received an Emmy Award for her performance in Homeless To Harvard The Liz Murray Story in 2003. Other films she has appeared in include Dungeons & Dragons (2000), The Hole (2001), Silver City (2004), Dark Corners (2006), Winter of Frozen Dreams (2009), and Petunia (2012).After taking time off from acting Birch was back in the spotlight in the year 2016 and has since starred in several independent films. Birch played the role of Whisperer Mary/Gamma in the season 10 episode of The Walking Dead (2019-202). Birch was the eldest of children born to Jack Birch (and Carol Connors) in Los Angeles. Birch is German-Jewishwith Scandinavian and French-Canadian ancestry. [6] Her name, Thora, is derived from that of Norse god of thunder and lightning "Thor" and would be her name should she had been a young boy. She is the younger sister of Kian Bolt Birch.Birch's parents are former adult film actors who both were in the film Deep Throat. Due to their personal experience working in the entertainment industry they were hesitant to support her, but were persuaded to show Thora's photo to agents by a babysitter who noticed her mimicking commercials. Birch was four when she had her first major break when her babysitter took her to audition for an Quaker Oats advertisement.
