Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman was born May 25, 1994. She is a retired American artistic gymnast. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. In the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she received a gold medal at the team competition as well as teammate Gabby Douglas the sole Americans who won back-to-back gold team medals. Raisman was also awarded silver medals in the individual all-around, as well as for the floor exercise. Raisman has silver medals from the individual all-around, in addition to the floor exercise. She was also two-time champion of the national championship in floor exercise (2012 and 2015) and the 2012 national champion on the balance beam. She is also an all-time champion of the national all-around competitions at national championships (silver bronze, silver 2011, 2012 and the year 2015). In 2013 she was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber and was a former high school gymnast and Rick Raisman, on May 25 1994 in Needham. Her younger siblings are Brett, Chloe, and Madison. Raisman is Jewish and has stated that "I really enjoy being able not only to represent the U.S.A but also the Jewish Community across the world." Raisman started gymnastics when she was eighteen months. She credits her first love for the sport to the "Magnificent Seven", the gold-medal-winning U.S. women's team at the 1996 Summer Olympics that she saw on VHS.She took classes at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing through Level 8, when she transferred to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club under coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman was a graduate of Needham High School in 2012, after completing her senior year via online classes , while preparing for the Olympics.
